Jury Selection for Moussaoui Begins
CNN reports that the jury selection for 9/11 conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, is underway. Jurors will decide if the admitted member of al qaeda will die of lethal injection or will instead face life behind bars. Moussaoui plead guilty to all charges against him last April, according to the article, but will fight the death penalty. It was originally believed that Moussaoui was supposed to be the 20th hijacker but was held back due to his arrest. Authorities claim that he should be put to death because he knew of the conspiracy and could have warned them a month ahead of time but instead kept his mouth shut. It is believed that Moussaoui was to fly a plane into the White House in a second wave of attacks.
Anyone who has read this blog before knows my feeling towards the death penalty. Unlike most conservative bloggers I am against the use of capital punishment due to religious reasons, but in a case like this it is hard for me to advocate for life in prison. This man knew of the 9/11 conspiracy ahead of time. His knowledge could have saved thousands of people but he chose to keep his mouth shut. It's obvious this man is an extremist and terrorist. The side of me that seeks vengence for those killed hopes that the jurors will show the same mercy to him that he showed the victims of the attacks by keeping his mouth shut.
